Alot of programs I use to sue and run on my computer I had to uninstall and
reinstall. Now however I am unable to install these programs. I get a 16 bit
error saying that "config.nt. Unsupported by windows or MS-DOS" Then it says
either to canccel or ignore, but either way it just closes. Is there anything
I can do to stop that? On a lighter note. I am unable to get online with that
computer. My modem will not dial at all. Any suggestions on that?

CONFIG.NT Fix Method 1:
copy; %windir%\repair\config.nt
to
%windir%\system32

CONFIG.NT FIX Method 2:
Go to; Start --> Run
enter; cmd.exe

{ assuming the Win2K CDROM disk is in drive "D:" }
In the Command Prompt enter...
expand D:\i386\config.nt_ %windir%\system32\config.nt

Since there are many forms of malware that can cause a problem with CONFIG.NT (or
AUTOEXEC.NT) please
perform the following...

1) Download the following three items...

Trend Sysclean Package
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp

Latest Trend Pattern File.
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp

Adaware SE (free personal version v1.05)
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Create a directory.
On drive "C:\"
(e.g., "c:\New Folder")
or the desktop
(e.g., "C:\Documents and Settings\lipman\Desktop\New Folder")

Download Sysclean.com and place it in that directory.
Download the Trend Pattern File by obtaining the ZIP file.
For example; lpt367.zip

Extract the contents of the ZIP file and place the contents in the same directory as
sysclean.com.

2) Update Adaware with the latest definitions.
3) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
4) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
5) Using both the Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware, perform a Full Scan of your
platform and clean/delete any infectors/parasites found.
(a few cycles may be needed)
6) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using both the
Trend Sysclean utility and Adaware
7) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
8) Reboot your PC.
9) Create a new Restore point

It is likely that your problem is caused by some spyware/malware.
There are quite a few posts on this issue. Download and run AdAware
(www.lavasoft.se) to clean up your PC.

"Dave, thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I am still getting this error.
There was a file that seemed to be causing the problem and I deleted it, but
once I try running config.nt it says that file is missing and it needs to
locate it. my guess is it had a virus. but my virus scan is acting screwy. I
still can get online. Everytime I try to log on, my ISP prepares for dialing,
but then I get an error messege saying "Problem dialing: Cant dial". I dont
know what to do about that.

Did you follow my directions and REPLACE config.nt from the Win2K CDROM ?

Did you run Adaware SE and Trend Sysclean ?
