Conditonal Format Grayed Out

I am building a report and I want the yes/no check boxes to appear in red if
"No". When I select a check box the "conditional formatting" on the menu is
grayed out. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I could be wrong but I don't believe conditional formatting can be applied
to check boxes.
