Conditional Formatting limits - datasheet view

I see that with conditional formatting you can only have 3 or 4
distinctions. I have a subform displayed in datasheet view and I want
one of the columns to highlight the different information in different
colours. There could be 9 or 10 different bits of info in this column
and that's too much for conditional formatting.
How do you colour code info in datasheet view?
thanks

You are limited to three colors in total, period.
