Conditional Formatting and File Size

I have added conditional formatting to a spreadsheet which
greatly increased its size. (It went from 16kb to 1.31mb)
Is this nmormal, and is there a way around it?

Hi Richard
this depends on how many cells you've applied conditional
formating.
e.g. if you've applied this for an entire column/row this
could lead to such a file increase. Try retricting the
conditional format only to the relevant cells.

Thanks Frank, i'd applied it to create a Gantt chart for
the year, so had cond. formatting on a few thousand
cells...
Elsewhere i had used it to highlight empty cells, so a
quick scan across the spreadsheet would reveal missing
information.

then not much you can do against the file-size. If you
have formated thousands of cells
