cond formating ?

I want to set the fill color of several cells
text, dates and numbers to grey if the cell has no value and then remove the
fill color after the user enters a value in the cell-
what would be a proper formula

Hi
have a look at 'Format - Conditional Format':
- select your cell
- goto this dialog
- enter the formula (if you have selected cell A1)
=A1=""
- choose your grey format
