concatenation

In Excel 2007, I have 2 columns, A & B.
I am referencing cells A39 and F39.
A39 is a text cell.
F39 is a red colored number cell.
I used the formula: =A39&" "&F39.
I get the result: Bathtubs -154 (the -154 value turned from red to
black).
That is great but how do you conditional format the -154 value to be:
Green is positive and red for negative.
I don't have any trouble if the cell just has a number in it but i can't get
conditional formatting to work when doing a concatanation.

Hi Charles

With CF, the whole cell can only take one colour.
So, you could have "Bathtubs -154" all in Red, or "Bathtubs 350" all in
Green.
This you would achieve by setting the CF as
=F39>=0 Format Green
=F39<0 Format Red

Otherwise you will need to avoid concatenation, and use 2 cells with the
cell holding A39 formatted Right, and the cell holding F39 formatted Left
with an Indent of 1
