computers wont show in network neighborhoos

I have just taken over a client who has a 2000 domain.
only the servers show in the network neighborhood. no
workstations show in network neighborhood and can not be
found as a computer using search. I have taken one
workstation to a remote site and added several new XP PRO
workstations. the 2000 pro box can see the XP boxes but
the XP boxes can not see the 2000 pro box. I assume their
is a setting that is causing this. what setting is it?

see if the browser service is enabled on the workstations, and if if the
dhcp service tells the clients to use netbios or if it is disabled.

The computer had a static IP so that leaves out the DHCP
server. I belive that if the browser service was turned
off you would not be able to see anything in network
neighborhood. I think I saw file and printer sharing
disabled. I saw an artical in the knowledge base that
referred to file and printer sharing. I also did a test
on my test network and disabled file and print sharing on
a win2k pro box. The browser service populated the
network neighborhood befor I disabled the service. After
I disabled the file and print sharing I was unable to
browse from the server to the workstation and from
workstation to workstation reciving the error
message "file path not found". I enabled file and printer
sharing and was able to browse and access the workstation
fine. I will be at my clients location later today and
test this out and post my findings
