Computer wont start up unless I remove the battery every time.

Hello, and thanks for any help. I am having a problem starting my xp home
computer.
It started yesterday after running the computer normally, I shut down went
to work, came home and it wouldn't start, the fans and lights came on but no
video and wouldn't go in to windows. I tried a different power supply, took
out motherboard, and checked everything I could think of, I finally found
after many hours that the computer will start and load as long as I remove
the battery after shut down and put it back in, then go into bios and reset
clock. This is very frustrating. Any advice would be appreciated. Also
have tested the battery in the computer and out, it is at 3.2 volts. Thanks
again.

Hello,

That's a weird one!

1) Have you tried starting with the DEL key (to get into the BIOS) and
loading the failsafe BIOS settings, then rebooting nomally? If so, what was
the result?

2) Can you start in Safe Mode at all (hold the F8 key down when booting,
release it when the PC starts beeping a lot, and then select 'Safe Mode'
from the monochrome menu)?

3) Have you managed to pick up a virus or anything that might have upset
your BIOS settings (or changed the BIOS program itself)?

Let the group know.

Hi, When I try to start up without first taking the battery out and
putting it back in, it won't go anywhere, no safe mode or anything. Not
finding anything in the virus area's. I am totally baffled with this one.
Like I stated before, if I take the battery out for a moment everytime I shut
down it will start up fine, but if I just shut down and try to get back in it
won't go. It will do a restart fine. I hope someone has seen this before.
Thanks again.

Have you considered trying to get a replacement battery??? It could be
beginning to fail and most Coin cell batteries are not too expensive.

what if you press reset button instead? may have to repeat a couple of
times.
if this works, then you want to look at when you try to shutdown, what dos
it really do? standby, hibernate or real shutdown. some pc if you get it
hibernate or on standby, and subsequently power off, it will behave properly
