Computer won't shutdown after installing Vista Ultimate

I have a Gateway laptop, which came with XP. I bought Vista ultimate and now
my computer won't shutoff, have to use the power button to do it. Worked find
with XP?

Did you install all the drivers for your hardware? You would need to get
them from Gateway for your specific model machine. This would include
any special laptop power management software Gateway might have
available for your model.

Yes, I installed the new driver updates for vista, including the bios and was
told to try the shutdown settings with the lid and the power off button, but
still has no effect on it.

Then try a clean boot to see if something you have running - perhaps an
antivirus - is interfering with shutdown.
