Computer Won't Power Down

I have installed Windows 2000 on a P2 350 box. When I
shut the computer down, it runs through it's sequence but
won't automatically shut down. The message tells me it is
safe to turn the power off so I have to manually power
down. After being turned off for 5 - 10 seconds, the
computer restarts by itself. It is like the computer is
locked in restart mode. How can I get the computer to
shut down automatically using the shut down command and
stay off without having to pull the plug?

Hi Don,

Two things:

1) if you didn't have power control turned on in your BIOS when
you installed, you have to go back, turn power back on in bios,
and completely reinstall w2k. In place recovery does not work.

2) in bios, check that all your "boot on" settings are turned off.
There are all kinds of conflicts in things like "boot on PCI",
"boot on modem", yada, yada

And, do not forget that you can hold the power button in for
five seconds to over ride the motherboard and force the power
off. (Bear in mind that your idea of five seconds might be the
same as your power supply's. 7, 8, 9, "Click", off.)
