Computer won't boot up after system restore

Help me, gods of computer knowledge, and please answer my question:

After a few glitches in my OS, I ran a system restore. When I cam back, the
screen was blank black with the mouse cursor visible. When I reset the
computer, it prompts me to select safe mode, last known good configuration,
and normal startup. I've tried all three, and they all result in the same
blank black screen.

I resorted to using my system backup CD's, which came iwth the computer.
The first one worked great, but then it asked me to insert CD2. It opened
the DVD drive for me to place disc 2 in, but the DVD drive doesn't work, so
that didn't help. I tried to open the D drive to remove CD 1 in order to
insert CD2 there, but it the program shut down then-- apparently both cds
have to be in simultaneously.

So, how can I run my system backup discs with only one functional cd drive?
Alternatively, how can I re boot my computer after an apparently faulty
system restore operation?

Thanks in advance!
(please help!)
