I'm in the process of purchasing a new computer and I have some concern about how best to transfer my files from the old laptop to the new

My current laptop has a 9-pin and a USB connection, no ethernet. The new computer has 2 USB connections, an ethernet connection but no 9-pin

I understand that if both computers has an ethernet connection or 9-pin connections I could transfer the files via an appropriate cable. But can I do this with two computers that have only a USB port in common

Any advice is appreciated

Have you considered the infrared port ... going through
the air. It should be built in both laptops.
