Computer slow after Microsoft updates

Has anyone else experienced a significant slow down in
computer ops after downloading the last month's updates?
I run a program in the background when not using my
computer, and normally it processes information in about
30 hours. It's now taking 70-80 hours for the same
thing. I have a Pentium 4, 25 GB harddrive with 19 GB
remaining, running XP, plenty of memory showing
available. Thanks so much!
