computer restarts when using a program

I have a problem with my computer. When using word mostly
and other programs (games and Windows media player)
sometimes the computer will restart. The screen goes blank
and goes though start up. It gives me this message when
rebooting up: A system error

Is this memory problem?

Also sometimes the computer locks up and I can't end the
program it just hangs. Have to reboot to restart it.

That would be display drivers ... Un-install your graphics
card from the add/remove software program in control
panel ... then download a new fresh set of drivers (Not
beta ... If you need to know which ones work ... mail me
the make of your card and i can help) and slap them in ...
that should fix your problem
