Computer naming

Why is it that Windows XP will not allow me to give the
computer a name that includes a space? Other windows
packages do. I need to know how to do this as i have
upgraded recently but can't install a drawing package
because the license only recognises the previous computers
name that had a single space in it. The license
unfortunately cannot be changed.

Because the space does not conform to the standard naming convention and
is a Bad Thing. Try replacing the space with an underscore instead,
like: COMPUTER_NAME.
