Computer locks up

I'm running Windows 98 and Internet Explorer 6.0 and my computer locks up
frequently on the internet. If I use Cnt-Alt_Delete and look at the tasks I
see many "lexplore" tasks all running. Is this normal? I think it's
opening one of these "lexplore" tasks every time I open a new Internet
Explorer page and never shutting down any of them. Could that be the cause
of the lockups?
