Computer hangs

Running win XP, 512 RAM, 120 gig + 160 gig harddrives,
Sony RS220 2.76 gig CPU. Trying to edit movie clips
(home movies) MM II hangs up to the point the keyboard
does not respond and the only solution is to turn off the
power and lose my work.
Any thoughts?

Hi there,

Yes, I think your solution will be found in the Acceleration and Codecs
part of the Problem solving section of www.papajohn.org. In particular the
info on Codecs. If this does not solve your problem, please ask for more
help, perhaps in the Dr. Spock section of the New York Times :) Only
kidding...its not under Dr. Spock :))

Hey Joe,

How are you saving the video? AVI format to be played back
on your p/c or as a video file (samll or large) I find
that when I save the clips on video small or large my pc
hangs all the time! I know your frustration. If you save
clips AVI format this problem might go away....also try
turning of big programs like McAfee that use lots of cpu
this might help too.

Good luck!

Hi there,

If your system is hanging have you checked at www.papajohn.org under the
problem solving section? It strongly looks like you have a codec issue
because of the way things happen with DV-AVI over WMV files. Take a look
under acceleration and codecs for some pointers.
