I have a new unit purchase last August. In October someone upgraded the
Memory by doubling it to 1 GB. Before this it was fine with 512 MB of RAM. He
also added and extra fan inside. But since I got it back, it has had a
problem with freezing, which it never did prior to the memory upgrade. I have
try changing the memory page file size. Installed a registry cleaner/booster.
Seems as though when it needs to expand memory usage quickly it can't cope
and freezes. If I have a window/box on screen and wish to expand it by
dragging it will freeze. Same with trying to run flight simulator. When try
to load scenery files it freezes. Can the RAM increase be causing the causing
this?

Yes. IF the new RAM isn't 100% compatible with the old RAM.

Take out the new RAM chip and see if things settle out.

A registry cleaner is not a good idea. They cause more problems then they
solve. Yes the addition of new memory can cause these problems if the
memory isn't compatible with the board, or if the old RAM is still
installed, it might not be matched with the new RAM. XP is very fussy about
RAM.

If you want to troubleshoot this yourself, then there are several things you
can do. Test with only the old RAM installed, test with only the new RAM,
test with just one stick of the new RAM, retest with both, you get the
picture.

Download and run at least two of these memory diagnostic utilities. They
will create a bootable CD. Boot from that and run the diagnostics.

Anybody working inside of a computer can derange things and make matters
worse. The first order of business is to make sure that all of the boards,
connectors, RAM, etc., are properly and firmly inserted. The next step
would be to download some diagnostic software, such as Memtest since the
added RAM might be in question, or even a general computer diagnostic test
since adding a fan might indicate that there is an overheating problem.
Do some tests and see what is happening.

Specifically to the RAM addition question, the answer is yes when the
wrong RAM modules, i.e., mis-matched, were added. A general rule of thumb
is to have all of the RAM modules to be the same.
