Computer Errors

I downloaded SP2 after a shutdown get blue screen of
death errors seems to loop back none of the errors are
the same does a memory dump. Checked hardware is fine
memory is fine. Os is XP Pro computer Compaq two years
old. Before on SP1 computer ran fine no errors.
What are my options to fix this other that a new
computer.
1. Should I blow out hard drive re-format drive and do a
clean install of OS
2. Are there any files that I can download to fix this
problem without doing a clean install of OS?
