Computer doesn't restart

L

lschley

Yesterday when I started my computer. It would not load and went to the safe
mode window.
I tried safe mode and all the other option on that page and nothing works.
The only way to turn off the computer is to shut it down.

I tried to do a restore and the restore shut down.
Now all I get is the following message:

Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of above.

Where can i download the following file
I am using a different computer now.

Thanks Loren

if the computer is
not accessible, then
the only method is
to obtain a cd with
windows on it to begin
the process of repairing
the system

1) with the use of the
recovery console you
can run the method number
2 in the above link.

further, you can use "any"
windows cd that you can
borrow from someone and
use the recovery console to
log into your disk.

2) if you cannot acquire a
windows disk, then perhaps
you can remove your harddrive
and install it on another pc
as a slave drive so it can be
operated on with some disk
commands.

3) if neither of the two above
are suitable then you can
go to the homesite for your
pc and look up issues and
resolutions, 4) maybe you can
order disk for your pc or
send in your harddrive or
something.

this link parallels the 1 and
2 above but are a bit more
detailed:

Hey, DB, can you change your margins to 60 chars at least?
Not yelling at you but my mouse is getting tired of scrolling down the
page. Or am I the only one that sees 5 words per line. ?

No, you're far from the only one. Many others have asked the same
thing of him, but he ignores them and continues to do it his own way.

My mouse doesn't have to scroll down the page for his messages. He's
killfiled here.

But you do understand that your posting are hard to read. Even
though you write in complete sentences, I sometime feel like I've
read an Optometrist Eye Chart trying to string the fragments from
one line to another. Is your composition window that wide or do
you have some other reason to use a ~24 character line break ?

i do so for the
reading impaired
and the software
they have to use.

by no means is the
inconvenience of
your nose picker and
the burden of a mouse
scroller be compared
to that kind of disability.

perhaps, this information
will be helpful to those
most valuable primates
that use their fingers for
smelly purposes

;)

This guy doesn't seem to care. I've hit him on his short line length
before.

Statements like what? I mean, there aren't all that many people in this
newsgroup in the first place, so I don't know what you're getting at -
unless you're trying to say there are a lot of impaired people in here, or
something to that effect. But why would I assume that, given how small the
group here is?

One must never press the Enter key at the end of a line.
Only press it for a new paragraph. A user can always resize
the email to see as few characters as desired.
