My computer died but the hard drive is fine. when i slave the hard drive to
another computer i am restricted from accessing My Documents folder. i have
access to other non-critical files but am blocked from the ones I need. It
does not offer me the option to enter in my security info or anything. Nor
is there an option to share that folder. How do I get access to my files?

Since you're running Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in Safe Mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Once you have access to the Security tab you can take ownership
of the files and give your account Full Control permissions.

I had a similar problem before. I fixed by making "my document" public again.
