In a much earlier THREAD that I had posted about greyed out options in
Windows Firewall I managed to fix that problem on the Dell PC running WinXP
Pro SP2. The real problem now is that this PC can see all the other computers
on the network and any SHARES or SHARED PRINTERS but no computers on the
network can access any of the SHARES or SHARED PRINTERS on this computer.

To clarify there is ABSOLUTELY NO FIREWALL ENABLED OR SOFTWARE similar to
that ENABLED on this PC or any of the other computers on the network. In the
network there are (4) PC's running WinXP PRO SP2 and (1) PC running Win98 SE.
The Dell used to work fine before the system had some problems with VIRUSES &
SPYWARE which have been removed completely and the system was reloaded from
the Restore CD and all other software reinstalled.

The original THREAD can be found at
"http://www.microsoft.com/communitie..._web&mid=02bd81a2-5677-44de-8087-aa5c17d286ad"
and everything that was listed as an option was tried or confirmed to not be
the solution to the problem.

In order to get the client's office up and running some what normally, I had
to install the SHARED PRINTER that was normally installed on the DELL PC
running XP on the Win98 system. The client would prefer to have everything
back the way it was. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Joel

I forgot to add the following information that might be helpful. The
computer's name that needs to have the shared printer on it adn what happens
when you try to access it.

"\\1073-0-h is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permission. The path network was not found."

Joel,

A misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or other security component
would be just one of the most common causes of this problem. There are several
other possibilities too, and any might be the cause of your problem. Read this
article with an open mind.

When you mix Windows 98 and Windows XP on a LAN, you can cause problems like
this.

On a LAN with Windows XP only, examining "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all"
would help diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, browstat won't run on the
Windows 98 computer. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):

Hi, I had the same problem between Windows Xp Home and Windows XP Pro.
Windows Home liked to access shared files on Windows Pro, but when Windows
Pro tried accessing shared files on Windows Home, it came up with the message
that you get.

I managed to resolve this by downloading Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit
Tools onto the Windows Home, as this is the one had had problems accessing
from the other PC. Hopefully this link will help you, and the download is
also on this link:

Hope this helps!
