We have one or two users, who when trying to create compressed files within
XP get the error: cannot create output file.
This is using the standard file compression tool in XP.
It is machine specific as if the users log on to other PCs it is fine.
Files to be compressed are usually excel, word or jpg.

Any thoughts?

Well it can't create the output file. Why? that's what you need to find out. Is there disk space?

For best results and to avoid future problems, do NOT compress files.

There is a huge difference between compressed files and ZIP files. Which is
it?

I am taking that wording directly from Windows! I may have been a bit
unclear on the option I was referring to. If you highlight several files then
right click - send to - you get the option for Compressed(Zipped) folder.
Disk space is not an issue and as I say it only happens when the users are
logged into particular PCs.
Why zip the files in the first place?
Well it is usually becuase they want to email them out and the recipient has
a file size limit on their email account.
