Compressed text

We have a document in which the text has completely compressed itself so that
all the letters in a sentence are ontop of each other. If we go into format
font and change the character spacing (ie. to 99% or 101%), the text
decompresses; however, it's always either too closely spaced or too widely
spaced. If we take it back to 100% spacing, it completely compresses and
becomes illegible again. How do we fix this? It's a 60 page document and a
complete retype would be awful to do.

When you change the font format are the Spacing and Position options set to
normal? If not, try setting the two options to normal.
