I wrote some files to a CD that had evidently been compressed on a machine
running windows98. I cannot open them with Windows XP. It tells me the
files must be mounted, which can only be done on Windows 98. Is there any
way to recover these files?

Hi chappy:

*Have you got a firend who runs win98? Get them to do it and pay them in
beer.

*Generally with opening file problems try this first: Right click the file
and choose "Open With...". If XP cannot open it, it should ask you if you
want to be directed to a website to determine what WILL open it. If working
properly, that website will offer suggestions. Based on those suggestions,
you can then Google up about 3 million websites, some of which will have a
free fix-a-rooter for you with malware included that will crash your
computer. Then go to your friend's house with beer so you can use his
computer. (just kidding-- be careful though).

*If crashing your computer doesn't help, copy the file name (including the
extension) and post here again for more sarcastic advice. PS: bring beer.
