david

hi there!

missing add password feature in file menu Win xp home
edition for zipped files. any help!

thanks

Open the ZIP file in Windows Explorer, then go to File, Add Password. If
you've installed 3rd party unzipping software, it may have hijacked the ZIP
file association. If so, click Start, Run and enter REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL

Hi doug,

I did run REGSVR32 ZIPFLDR.DLL and it did run
succesfully but I don't have the add password in the file
menu yet.

I have downloaded WinZip and Winrar. Do I need to
uninstall them?

thanks

Hi doug,

succesfully but I don't have the add password in the file
menu yet.

I didn't see it at first either, David, until I retried what Doug said.
With the zip file selected, click on File > Open or right click/Open. A new
window appears. That new window will show Extract All and Add A Password
under the File menu.

hi sharon,
I have downloaded winzip and the file that I would like
to add password, is a winzip file. So when I click file
menu with the selected "zip file" I have "open file with
winzip" instead of "open" option and I don't have the add
password option. Do you think I should uninstall the
winzip? or you think I should try reinstalling Windows?

thanks

Doug, if I open the file which will be opened by the
winzip then it won't be a "zip file" so that I can use
the "Add password" option. My Windows is Home edition you
remember?

A ZIP file, is a ZIP file, regardless of the program used to create it.
However, if WinZip is the Default for ZIP files, you'll have to consult its
documentation for how to add a password. WinZIP takes over all ZIP file
functions from XP, including password protection.

Actually I taught of something. Maybe my drive is not
formatted as NTFS and that is the case. How can I find
that my drive is NTFS or FAT?
