Compress photo's and file size.. HELP

I came across a button on the bottom of the toolbar when
you click on a photo that says compress photo. I've tried it thinking
it might help reduce the size of the file. The image seems to be
virtually the same as the one I inserted. However, when I click off the
photo and back on it and then on the compress photo icon, it doesn't
seem to have changed the image to the smaller web/screen file I had
asked it to. Also, the file size for the presentation doesn't seem to
have changed. (There's an option to apply it to all the photos which I
did and the presentation file is still huge.) Any comment, suggestions,
information on this button and will it help us with the file size etc. ?

Dan,
Do you have Fast Saves turned on? Tools--> Options, Save Tab, first check
box. If it is checked, uncheck it and re-save your file with a new name.
Post back and let us know if your file size shrunk.

There are a whole lot of reasons why file size might be bigger than expected.
This summarizes most of them we've stumbled across:

Why are my PowerPoint files so big? What can I do about it?
