Complex Scripts Tab

Hello,

I have a question on a Tab called Complex Scripts in my Tools/Options menu
that I hope someone can advise me on.

I do not know how I got the tab. My co-workers do not have this option and
all our computers were setup the same way. As a result, I seem to see
information in my style descriptions that my co-workers do not. As an
example when I hover over a style, I can see the basic information for the
setup of the style and also Complex Script Font Time New Roman 9 +(Complex)
Arabic Saudia Arabia. Some styles show (Latin) in the style name, which is
not a style name for the template. The template uses Arial as the default for
all the styles and the Language is English US.

Is there a Word option that somehow has been turned on that I can reset to
get rid of this Complex Scripts tab and hopefully restore my application to
the default view I am used ot?

Thank you for your response.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I don't want to turn Complex Scripts on. I did
go to the Control Panel and checked the regional and language settings and I
do not have anything checked there.

I just want to remove this Complex Scripts tab from my Options list and see
if that solves the problem I am having with seeing all the language
information in my styles.

Thank you.

Did you read the part of the article that says, "To remove the
complex script and right-to-left language files..."?

These features appear because one of the "Complex Scripts" languages is
enabled for Office on your machine. To fix the problem:

1. Launch "Microsoft Office Language Settings" from the Start Menu. It is
listed under "Microsoft Office Tools".
2. If the language that "defines default behavior" is set to Arabic, Hebrew,
Thai, Indic, or something similar, change it to a language that you'd rather
use.
3. Remove Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, Hindi, and any other unwanted languages that
are listed in the list of Enabled Languages.

Hello Todd,

Thanks you for the reply. I had previously checked the language setting and
mine is set to English U.S. and is the only language that appears in the
right column.

Hello,

Yes. I did read the article and checked my options. I do not seem to have
any language select except English US. There were no check marks in any of
the boxes.

I've seen a similar problem -- the corner marks that appear in the top
and bottom margins when Asian languages are enabled, but the language
tool insisted that English was the only language present. I found a
way to kill them in the registry. See if

helps you.

Hello,
Thank you for the web reference. I did check my Registry files and
everything was set to Explicit Off or just Off except for ShowDates. 1033
was set to Explicit Off as the reference said.

I did set the language to English U.K. shut down Word, reopened and reset
language to English U.S. but that did not work either. When I reopened Word,
I no longer had the Complex Scripts tab in Tools/Options. However, the
persistent language "hash" marks are still visible and the language is US
English. I will see if they go away when I reboot my computer.

Thank you.
