Hi Ladies and Gents,

Appologies if this is in the wrong forum, I have been administering a domain
based network for some time now, i have become quite complient with the way
in which each of the services are configured and administered.

I am looking to do my first ground buld of a 2000 Server, this will be a
consolidated server that runs AD, DNS, DHCP, Exchange and other basic small
environment services, i need some advice on the order in which these should
be implemented, do i install AD and promote to a domain first? that sort of
thing.

All advice is greatly recieved, Thanks in advance.

I think the info you're looking for is beyond the scope of a newsgroup.
Expect to do a lot of reading, build a test server if you can, etc. Here's a
link to get you started, and good luck.

Thats great .... thanks very much.

I'm not after a detailed guide from anyone .... i understand the processes
for say ... configuring DNS .... i just need to know which order to do it all
in.

eg.

Install win 2003 server
Set IP conffiguration
Promot to domain
Install DNS Server
Install DHCP Server.

Cheers, Rob

Install the Server with all the Network options you want except WINS. Then after all is installed the Computer Welcome will be the first thing you see on the desktop. Use that to start your install of the domain. The menu options are on the left. You will not run dcpromo manually. The Computer Management Wizard will do that for you. Have all the necessary info and let that proceed. When you come back to the deskop all your services will be running perfectly DNS DHCP Web everything. At that point you start to customize. But be careful. Watch changing any Ownership Rights NTFS Permissions just be careful and know what to expect whenever you make a change. That's where your Windows 2000 Server Administrator's Companion - Russel Crawford comes in handy.

Thanks for that bud,

I have my pocket companion on red alert, i will no doubt be posting on the
forum for some assistants further down the line.

Thanks Again, Rob
