Complete removal of some icons in system tray

Hi,

I don't want to just hide some of the icons in my system tray, I want to
remove them without removing the programs. I've done this before, quite a
while ago, and I've forgotten how to do it. Can you refresh my memory?

Check the program for any options to do this [ Not load at startup ]
Then, if no option there :
Start > Run > msconfig > Startup tab > Uncheck entry for the program
There is no need to restart when it says you should. Simply say no and work
as you do.

Thanks for responding Ayush.

The programs don't have an option to not start at start-up. I checked that
before I came here. I want the programs to be available to use but I don't
want the icon in my systray. I want them "on demand" such as Media Player,
Microsoft Word, Nero, and others.

Turning them off using MSConfig will cause my pc to not check the programs
to see if they're working properly when I boot up. I don't want to do that.
I want them to be configured properly but out of my systray.

You could try "PS Tray Factory" from www.pssoftlab.com

Works for me.

The icons were the result of downloading a codec bundle. It also included
Quicktime, which has never worked on my pc . . . it always freezes it, no
matter where I get the program. I was very surprised to see the icons in my
systray for codecs. I've removed icons from my systray before using
Services. These codecs aren't listed in Services.

Considering that they're simply codecs that I can pick up anywhere without
this problem, I'll uninstall them. They're in Add/Remove Programs.

I did uninstall Quicktime using Add/Remove Programs but the icon is still in
Add/Remove Programs. Any suggestions?

Umm .. the only way you are going to do what you want is using Ayush's
method. It prevents the program from starting up at startup, and allows it to
be run by different means. You do not need a way of making sure that the
program is OK, and if you want to do it another way, then you will be
instructed a different (harder) method which does the SAME EXACT THING. eg.
editing the registry, downloading third party apps... To do it otherwise is
to find a program that will either edit the apps (you don't want to do this
even if you find one), or just do what you said you wanted it not to do ....
make it hidden.

Please also note that some programs need to be running in the background in
order to make your program work properly (it is unknown why some people would
make programs like this)... In this case if you want it to work that badly,
either make a shortcut to the systray program (so you can load it before you
use your program) and/or make that one hidden.

When clicking on each registry key, none name the program that is associated
with it. It's impossible to find using that method. The folders beneath the
registry keys are named. Would deleting one of the folders remove the
program?
