Hi,
I made a backup a while ago but I had some problems on the external HD where it was stored and lost all the XML Document
files. I only have the two VHD files in that folder now from my original C:\ & D:\ partitions.

Will this give me enough data to restore this backup?
What will I not have it I can do this?
Should I just delete this because it's N/G?

I would like this if possible cause it is my original install from the computer maker and has the Win-RE in the F8
option. I like that much better than using the DVD.

Sorry. Read you post twice and couldn't understand it. Please rephrase
yourself.
Hi,
I don't ,know any better way to say this. I don't have the XML files to my complete PC backup that it makes when it does
the backup.
I want to know if I can still use the VHD files which are the main disk backup files to recreate a restore image?
This is the only copy I have of my original install from the manufacturer.

Hey. What operating system did you make the backups in? If it's in Vista,
then I think the files would be enough. If you made your backup in XP and
try to restore them into Vista, try this tool from Micro$oft:

Hi Jonathan,
I made them with the Vista Ultimate Complete PC Backup program. I guess I can try the backup but don't know what
problems I may encounter.

I did get these answers from Jamir @ Microsoft:
1- Will just the two VHD files give me enough data to restore this backup? [Jamir] Most likely no. It will try to search for additional files (XML and Catalog). You can try,
but it will most likely failed. I honestly never tried to do this after deleting those files.

2- I do have a set of XML files from a different backup of Vista from the OEM System Builder Edition. The original that
I have a problem with is from the OEM Systemax computer install. Can I copy them into this folder and try that? [Jamir] No, it won't work

Hi Jonathan,
I just took a second look and now since I tried to access it there a lot of files dated yesterday with 0 bites. So
rather take a chance I deleted the whole mess.
I did want the Win-RE F8 option but I think that would not have been a workable program. My only two options now are
either pay MS $245 to install it or send the computer back to Systemax for about two weeks and have them install it.
Which will cost me the shipping and maybe other charges since there is no hardware defects. I don't think either one is
acceptable to me.
I guess I will have to live without the Win_RE in the F8 option.
