Compile Error in hidden module

A

Alan

Each time I start Excel XP, I get a dialog box message
that reads "Compile error in hidden module: Entry Module"

I uninstalled Excel, then reinstalled it again. This did
not correct this problem.
Why am I getting this message?

Hi Alan!

the most likely candidates for causing the problems are files that
load with Excel. These candidates are:

Ø Personal.xls file or

Ø Files in the list of files that you have loading immediately
upon open Excel

Ø Addins that are opened on starting up Excel

Try opening Excel without any addins or hidden workbooks:

Start, Run,

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Automation

Quotes mandatory, Note you may have to change the path.

If your error disappears, then we're getting close to the cause. There
is either an add-in or a (hidden) workbook that is loaded upon XL's
start, which bothers you.

Try locating the XLSTART directory, move everything from there.

Use Tools > Addins, note down the ones checked and uncheck them one at
the time, each time restarting Excel.

Use Tools > Options > General. Check if a path is entered after
"Alternate startup file location." If there is anything there, note it
down and then clear it. If that is the source then you will need to
later check out all of the files in that location you noted down. If
it is not the source then you have noted down the location for
continued use on opening Excel.

Another option is to open XL in Safe mode:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /Safe

If all the above fails. Note down what you have done and any special
symptoms and post an Excel Open > Close query to the Excel misc
newsgroup.
