compatibility issues?

I'm not sure why, but my laptop with vista won't load CD's or DVD's at all. I
bought this computer because my old one was outdated and didn't even have a
DVD drive. It seems like a waste of my money for this stupid Vista if it
won't even play what i'd like it to play.
It's specs are: intel T7500 2.2GHz processor, 2GB ram, and nvidia geforce
8400m gs graphics card

Maybe it's not Vista. Maybe it's a hardware problem.
I'm not saying that to defend Vista. Just trying to get you to look at all
possibilities.
If it's relatively new, take it back to where you bought it. If it has a
CD/DVD drive and the drive won't do what it's supposed to do, the seller
needs to fix that.

This is more on the side of a hardware issue, possibly a defect, you
probably want to return if its still under warranty.

I'm trying to transfer a video from my Sony Handycam DCR-30 but it's not
compatibility with Windows Vista, please advise a solution.

Thanks
