compatability

I have never used FrontPage, but a friend had a site built for him with the
software. He doesn't know what version..MAC/PC. Will the Mac version
work to edit a site created with the PC version?

There is no extant Mac version of FP. There used to be one, but it died. 8)

FP for MAC has been discontinued for quite some time and is no longer
supported by MS. If I recall, the MAC and PC version are not compatible.
