Not really.
WP 11 can probably read Word 97 files. The programs work in very different
ways and structure their files differently. Converted documents are a
kludge. Sending docs back and forth and editing in bothe is a recipe for
disaster.
WP11 came out long after Word 97 so Word 97 is not going to read files in
WP11's native format. If you save your WP11 files in WP 5.1 format or
something else that Word 97 can read, you'll be able to open them in Word
97.
