Compaq Recovery Disk & Partitions

I have a Compaq Presario 5455EA computer running Windows XP Home. This has
an 80GB hard drive installed. My user files are stored on C: and I believe
the XP data files are stored on D: which I have never touched.

When I first bought the PC the size of C: was approximately 70GB which is
ample for my personal files and applications. However, with the passage of
time I have been performing regular User Backups using the Compaq Recovery
CD. This has resulted in the D: partition growing in size and C: partition
correspondingly reduced in size.

Today I have only 5GB available hard disk space on my C: partition which is
inadequate. That is, the majority of the hard disk is now holding backup
data files on the D: partition.

I now want to reclaim hard disk space by doing away with User Backup files
on D: because it seems an inefficient way of going about it.

Is it a case of deleting the relevant files on D: and resizing the C: and D:
partitions? If so, then how do I know which files to delete safely?

Grateful for some advice on the best way to go forward.

Thanks and regards

Azam

Dynamic resizing of your boot partition is not native to Win XP and is not
supported by Microsoft, so this must be accomplished by a custom Compaq
utility.

You are correct in seeking assistance, because if you make a mistake, you
could make your system unbootable, requiring you to use the Compaq Restore
utility, which would destroy all of your personal files.

You are much more likely to receive knowledgeable advice on the use of this
Compaq utility from Compaq technical support, or a Compaq newsgroup, than
you will find on a Windows XP newsgroup.

Have you read the manual / help files that came with Compaq and the utility?

Yes I did read the Compaq Restore CD Guide but it is not detailed enough to
resolve my problem.

I agree it may be better to approach Compaq technical support direct.

Thanks
