Compacting in Access 97

I am using Access 97 and when I compact the Database I
get an error message saying I don't have permission to
read the tables. Then it creates another database called
db1.mdb which seems to be the original database only
compacted and with a different name. Am I right in
thinking this?

Probably. One possible cause of the error may be due to a corrupted
MSysObjects table. Try compacting the db1 database and see if you get the
same error.

I compacted the new database and did not get any new
errors, everything seemed to work fine.
