Compact and Repair

Can anyone suggest why one would NOT want to activate the "Compact On Close"
feature under Tools>Options. It appears to me that Compact and Repair is a
good thing; why not perform it each time you close a database?

One comment.

If you have your database split into FE/BE (a good idea anyway) compacting
the FE every time it is used really does not do a lot in my opinion. The data
is all in the BE. Further, if you have an MDE FE (again a good idea) no
development should be taking place in the FE so compacting the FE over
and over after distributing just seems a little overkill to me.
