Comp to Comp Networking

Hello. I have given up on networking my computer through the router. I want
to directly connect the computer to the laptop. (basically put a network wire
in the NIC of one pic and the other, i think its something called crossover).
Can anyone tell me what exact type of cable I need and the all information
on how to configure my pc's to share files?

No, of course you need to do more than just plug a cable in. As Mr.
Harper said, you will need to read about how to configure ICS. In
addition to the two excellent sites he gave you, here is a link to MVP
Steve Winograd's site, which has a lot of good information about ICS.
You could also open XP's Help & Support and type in "Internet
Connection Sharing".

Using a crossover cable is no more complicated (and no less complicated) than
using a hub/switch/router and a pair of standard cables.
