comp doesn't even show the bios load up

so i have problems with my desktop. it keeps restarting before it even
gets to the bios screen. so the power is on but it just restarts and
restarts. so basically nothing ever appears on the monitor. i thought
it was the motherboard but i just swapped it out for a new one and i
still have the same problem. so i unplugged everything (hard drive,
cd-rom, etc) except for the video card and processor. so it's one or
the other. would the computer start at all with a bad processor? i
don't think it would so i think it's the video card. also right
before the computer got screwed up the lines would go up and down the
monitor making me think the video was bad. anyways, tell me if you
think it's the video card too. please help.

has anyone else had this problem?

Really does sound like the PSU is on the way out or unable to cope with the
load, with out knowing the system spec it's the first thing I would look at.

thanks for the reply, i'm assuming PSU is power supply. here's my
system spec:

Motherboard: Asus A7n8x (just got a new one)
Power Supply: Vantec 420A (420W)
CPU: Athlon 1800XP
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600XT
Hard Drive: 80GB Seagate
Sound Card: SoundBlaster Live 5.1
RAM: 2x256mb DDR 266 Mhz, 1x512 DDR 266Mhz

i just tested my friend's working video card in my machine and the
problem is still there. it just restarts over and over without
showing anything on the screen.

i set the power supply to it's highest setting and the problem still
occurs. perhaps i'll have to go find another one.

Buy new Cmos Battery. They are cheap.1st thing to do and easy before
you go spending lots of money.Usually a 2032.Get a Duracell.Reset BIOS
parameters and see how you go :)

Hi,

friend...
well the only issue is not with ur video card.

its 2 do with ur Heat sink & CPU
if u know how it shd sit on the mb..its ok.

or else chk
1> Thermal paste is pasted between the CPU & heat sink---
Never remove that.

2>just chk the manual for AMD Heat sink & processor alignment.
even i had found some guys in out here they fix it wrong...& so
we face the problem.

3> chk ur cpu temperature in BIOS.

if these things are done ..
it shd start working.

even after this it doesnt.
then last resort is chk ur DDR FSB speed whether it matches the Board
& the 2 modules are of the same FSB

Thanx

RAM: 2x256mb DDR 266 Mhz, 1x512 DDR 266Mhz

the FSB is 266 MHZ

it shd have been 400 FSB jst chk it out with others who have the same
config

and make sure u have 2 search as per ur processor.
