Communication Error when scanning on HP C4280 AIO

Running HP m8200n computer, Vista Home Premium, when using HP Photosmart
software to scan, a communication error shuts down the application, then goes
to HP's web site to find a solution...there is a laugher. I've spent hours
chatting online with HP support unloading, reloading, rebooting, etc. All to
no avail. MS Paint scanning works fine using the same AOI scanner. AOI prints
fine, downloads photos fine. Just won't scan...any ideas?

Have a look at this document which would seem to apply to your printer
as well:

This HP document says what you can and cannot do with the G85
under VISTA with printrs for which there are not fully featured
drivers:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00808543&lc=en&cc=
us&dlc=en&product=60399&lang=en

The Home versions of VISTA do not include the Fax & Scan utility that
is in the Business versions and higher so you are dependent on third
party software including from the AIO manufacturer.

But there does seem to be fully featured VISTA software for your AIO:

HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers 10-2007 9.0.0 - 154.09M

Note the diagnostic Utility as well.

Uninstall any HP AIO software you may see in Add Remove Programs,
delete any icons in the Control Panel / Printers and Fax/Scan folders;
unplug the USB cable from the PC end; reboot the PC.

------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE -- the following instructions are the one I use but they differ
from the literal wording of the HP instructions. I prefer to download
in case I need it again and so that I can use Run as Administrator.
------------------------------------------------------------------

Download that HP Software to a known location on your hard drive (use
Save, not Run if you are asked) and then with the USB cable still
disconnected install the software as follows:

Locate the exe file you have downloaded -- PS_AIO_NonNetwork_ENU.exe;
right mouse click on it and select Run as Administrator and OK your way
out and the installation should start.

Do not connect the USB cable until you are told to or until you reach
Finish.

Hope for the best -- let us know what happens.

I am checking system HP Pavilion m8060 Vista Home Premium
Photosmart error no scanning..
First : HP dared to sell pc's running on 1gb ram. Expand to 2gb. You are now
able to make a System Recovery Point and actually set it back.
Second : uninstall photosmart software.
Third : Clean registry with HP Cleaning program.
Fourth : Install Photosmart : dadadada WORKING.
I found Wise Registry cleaner deleting an important key....in other words...
Take care with registry cleaners or make a system recovery point first you
checked scanning and printing are Fine.
