Command to change test to numeric cells

after bringing in an outside text file that has this format: '1234

I need to make it 1234 for pivot tables to work.

What command can I use other than doing an edit key then pressing the enter
button to change the cell on each cell when there are 5,000 rows of data?
I'm sure it's a simple answer but I don't know it. Thanks much...joe

Copy an unused cell.
Select the target range.
Activate Edit|Paste Special|Add.
