Command prompt disappears

I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 with all the current updates, just ran a spyware
scan, cleaned everything up and re-booted; yet each time I try to go the
command prompt (Start, Run > cmd) the window will pop up and then disappear.
I'm a local admin on the machine and can't figure out why this is happening.
Any ideas??

Did you try it from Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. If
that doesnt work then go to
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe click on it there and see if it works. If
yes, rt click and select Send to desktop as Shortcut.

Update you antivirus software and do a system scan.

Are you actually typing "cmd" (no quotes) as the _entire_ command in
Start->Run? If so, then there is indeed some sort of problem (and I
don't have any useful suggestion for fixing it -- see others'
suggestions about scanning for malware).

But if you're typing "cmd /c" (again, no quotes) followed by some
command, then cmd.exe is doing what you told it too. Change the /c
to /k and all will be well.
