Combo box prompt

I've noticed a lot of form based applications lately where combo boxes
display helpful prompts such as "<Select state>" as its default text value,
but when you click to display the contents the prompt message goes away and
the list (of states) is displayed. This seems like a much more user friendly
way of helping end users navigate data entry forms. Is there a way to create
this type of combo box in Access 2007?

I haven't tried, but see whether the "how to simulate XP Cue Banners" code
in my February, 2004 "Access Answers" column in Pinnacle Publication's
"Smart Access" can be used with Access 2007. You can download the column
(and sample database) for free at

October, 2004 column as well.
