Com ports

Hello, hope I make sense.

I am working with a USB device, Sprint SPHi_500 device. Recently there was a with the device and EasySync software. It appears that the software had some conflicts with some entries inside Lotus Notes. I am also using EasySync to sync up the PDA. Anyway, long story short, I uninstalled the software to try and start over from scratch, now when I try to connect the device to the Laptop, via USB it says the com port is in use by another application. I really don't believe this. So removed the device from device manager and tried to connect it again. The system keeps saying the com port is in use by another application. The odd thing about it is the every time I uninstall and reinstall the com port goes up by 1. That is, it was on com 6 when I started now the last time I installed it, it was on com 11. Com 11 is the com port that Hot Sync manager displays.

Confused, any suggestion?

1) Don't post using HTML.

2). With your gizmo installed, go to device manager and open the
propertys of comport it has been assigned to, and click on the
advanced button. In the lower left is the comport drop down that
has comports 1 thru 256. Open the list and scroll up to the
comport you want to use, like 5. It may say it is in use (it
shouldn't be if you have nothing else connected), but just ignore
the conflict warning and chose ok. XP has a flaw where it
assigns a new comport number to USB comport port devices each
time they are plugged in.
