COM Ports...

Recently I've been working on a client's PC that we
created. It is using a Gigabyte GA-6VTXD motherboard and
a single processor.

The problem is in Windows XP, when you look at the
registry and see for the serial ports (under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\DeviceMap\SERIALCOMM\), it assigns
Serial0 to COM2 and Serial1 to COM1.

If I change these values in the registry, our software
which uses the COM ports works properly again but a reboot
reverts the PC back to this "reversed" state.

Looking at the CurrentControlSet section of the Registry
for Services serenum and Serial shows the order for bootup
(0 and 1) is in reverse. Changing these to a reverse
order does not help (it reverts back).

I am wondering what's going on here...

Some extras I've noticed...

I've tried re-installing Windows XP and it worked out fine
until I noticed that I could no longer shut down the unit
properly (It would hang at the blue screen...the case
being used does not have the shutdown cable power
necessary to shut down the motherboard). I then noticed
that the PC was set as an ACPI Uniprocessor PC. So, I
changed it to MPS Uniprocessor PC. And my COM ports
proceeded to reverse itself again...

Any thoughts on why using the MPG Uniprocessor PC format
would do this??
