Com Port not working after Windows reinstall

I just had to reformat my hard disk because Windows had
become corrupt somehow and was unstable in operation.
Before I reformatted, I had my Palm pilot HotSync cradle
connected to the ComPort and was working just fine.
Before I wrote zeros to the hard drive, I had
disconnected the Palm cradle. After I finished
successfully installing Windows XP, I then re-connected
the cradle to the ComPort. It doesn't work. I
tried "installing new hardware" but Windows doesn't seem
to know there's a com port there. Is there a driver or
something I can install or a software switch or
something? Thanks for your help.

Did you actually check your Device Manager list for this information

Go to Control Panel\System\Hardware Tab\Device Manage

Check Com ports to see if there is any issues

If they are not in the list
Check your com port connectors to your MB

If they are in the list
If they are fine check the Palm website for any type of special com port settings

Com ports arent the greatest for Hardware detection.

If Palm HotSync is anything like Psion's PSIWin, then there isn't a
driver as such - just the application-layer interface. I recommend
reinstalling HotSync or playing with the settings to choose which COM
port your cradle is connected to, as an actual COM port failure,
either in Windows' drivers or hardware, seems unlikely.
