COM port not detected by device manager

J

For some reason I can not dial out from my internal modem. I checked
the properties and it said that it is working properly off of port
COM3, however when I check my device manager under ports I only have a
LPT1, no COM anything. I don't have any other or unknown devices
either. Can anyone tell me why I can't find my COM ports? Thank you in
advanced!

Do you have the kernel debugger enabled on this machine? For ex. in your
boot.ini, if your debugport is set to com1, then com1 does not show up in
devmgmt.msc

not all modems show up as com ports in device manager, especially if they
are internal modems which do not expose a physical serial port. Look under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Hardware\DeviceMap\SERIALCOMM in the registry. are there
any Data values which are the COM port values you are looking for?
