Com Port issues

I am using a third party stock control program that continually loses
connection with its com port. The PC that i am using is a P4 with and 865pe
chipset, with raid 1 and win XP with SP2. Strangely enough when i close and
reopen my controller app the com port is re-found and i communicate again. At
this point i am looking for anyone that may have experienced a similar
problem once SP2 was installed, and any possible fixes.

Checked your firewall settings, or the settings in the 3rd party program? If so, then you may want to seek help from the program maker, or do a query in Google with the name of the program, and a brief decription of the issue (ie, program maker name, error message).
