Com Port in use

S

Shawn Ostrom

I am attempting to install a port expander on my server.
When the new hardware is detected and installed the new
ports begin numbering themselves starting at COM3. I
want to start numbering the new ports beginning at COM1.
In order to do so I need to uninstall COM1 & COM2. My
server does not have a COM2 serial port on it, however
under advanced in the port settings it indicates that
COM2 is in use. How can I determine what is using COM2?

I have a similar problem under W2000+SP4.
Some devices must have been uninstalled inproperly by the
user, and now Com Ports 3+4 are in use according to the
Hardware monitor.
Not even comdisable lists the com port as in use, nor can
i enable it.
Is there any way of finding out what process uses the Com-
Port, or even "free" the com ports by Reg-hack?

yours sicerely,

A. Teker
